The Bible Content Exam (BCE) policy is applicable to all three campuses of Asbury Theological Seminary: Wilmore, Florida and Virtual.
What is the purpose of the BCE?
- The BCE tests your basic knowledge of the Bible's structure and content.

What constitutes a passing score?
- A passing score for the BCE is 80 percent or higher.
How do I arrange to take the BCE?
- Send an email to BCE@asburyseminary.edu
- Tell us when you would like to take the exam, by email – no “walk-in” scheduling nor by telephone – email only, so we will have a written record of your request.
How can I study for the BCE?
- By accessing Bible Tutor through any web browser. Web access, log-in and password information is available on FirstClass for active students.
- By purchasing a personal copy of the Bible Tutor Educational CD. See the web site http://www.lutherproductions.com/ for information.
- By engaging in personal or group study of the Bible's content and world, its important persons, places and events.
Exam details
- 100 computerized questions – one-hour time limit – proctored
- If you have a documented learning disability, or English is your secondary language, you may have an additional 30 minutes to complete the exam. You must provide written proof of eligibility.
- You may attempt the exam up to three times before accumulating 32 hours. If you need to take the exam a second or third time, you must wait at least two months after your last test date to re-take the exam. For example, if you take the BCE in January, you are not eligible to take the exam again until March.
- If the proctored exam is failed three times, or if you fail to pass the exam before the end of your first 32 hours of seminary work, the Registrar’s staff will automatically register you for BS400, which must be completed with a passing grade. BS400 is not for degree credit and is taught only on the Virtual campus.
