Join us for the third and final Q3 conference on faith and science, "The Church: Sign of God's New Creation" which will be held Monday, March 5, through Wednesday, March 7, 2012 on the Kentucky campus of Asbury Seminary. We have intentionally planned this conference around the life and mission of the church in order to bring our three-year project to a wonderful conclusion. The plenary sessions and workshops will provide a variety of speakers who will help us to integrate insights from the world of science with our calling to bear witness to God's New Creation for the sake of the world. Our identity as God's people encompasses past, present, and future. We live in the present age but have already begun to live by the power of the age to come. We remember and anticipate God's promise of a new heaven and new earth in the ministry of Word and Sacrament. Our life as human creatures is a wonderful and mysterious unity of spiritual and physical reality. At the same time, we live in a technological age that requires wisdom and sound judgment in our desire to live and minister in ways that are faithful to God's work of restoring our humanity to the divine image, which is inseparable from our calling to be grateful stewards of God's good creation. These are some of the topics we will address in our time together.

We have designed the conference schedule to allow for more discussion/feedback time with our speakers and to provide more time to process and reflect on their presentations. There will be two informal Q3 Café conversations that will enable us to discuss issues related to the use of social media in ministry and current trends in worship. We will begin and conclude the conference with worship in Estes Chapel. There will be morning devotions to begin each day. Dinner will be provided on Monday and Tuesday evenings to enable us to spend more time engaging in this highly relevant conversation for the life and mission of the church. We look forward to seeing you in March!

Peace,

JOHN TEMPLETON FOUNDATION MISSION STATEMENT

The John Templeton Foundation serves as a philanthropic catalyst for discoveries relating to the Big Questions of human purpose and ultimate reality. We support research on subjects ranging from complexity, evolution, and infinity to creativity, forgiveness, love, and free will. We encourage civil, informed dialogue among scientists, philosophers, and theologians and between such experts and the public at large, for the purposes of definitional clarity and new insights.

Our vision is derived from the late Sir John Templeton's optimism about the possibility of acquiring “new spiritual information” and from his commitment to rigorous scientific research and related scholarship. The Foundation's motto, "How little we know, how eager to learn," exemplifies our support for open-minded inquiry and our hope for advancing human progress through breakthrough discoveries.
