Worship, Prayer & Spiritual Formation

Theological reflection and spiritual formation happen best when set in the context of a worshipping community. This is a hallmark of our life together at Asbury.

The Chapel

On the Kentucky Campus, students, faculty and staff gather for worship at 11 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday in Estes Chapel. Preachers, teachers and church leaders from across the world add to the richness of these experiences. It is customary for the entire Seminary community to meet together at these times. In addition, there is a midweek Eucharist service held on Wednesdays from 11:30 - noon in the Liturgical Chapel.

On the Florida Campus, worship services are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 2 pm during the academic year.

Student Involvement

There are a variety of opportunities for students to be meaningfully engaged in the chapel worship at the seminary. The Singing Seminarians is a “by audition only” choral group which prepares concerts and sings in chapel. WO511 Worship Design Practicum, is a class offered to students for credit which engages in the design and reflective analysis of a variety of chapel worship services. Each semester a student Chapel Assistant is employed in the Office of Community Life to help order and facilitate activities in the chapel.

The most significant counsel we can offer as it relates to community life is also the most simple: participate in chapel. It is central to the covenant making way for our life together before God. In order to recognize the degree of importance in which corporate worship is held at the seminary and to allow all who desire to attend chapel, the various public facilities such as Cafeteria, Office of Community Life, Business Office and Library are closed during chapel hours.
