Gender Issues in the Church: Theological and Practical conference

Everyone is invited to attend the "Gender Issues in the Church: Theological and Practical" conference Mar. 11 through Mar. 12, with Dr. Christine Pohl and Dr. Kay Rader as keynote speakers on Asbury Theological Seminary's Kentucky campus in Wilmore. There will also be a series of workshops to choose from throughout the conference.

Dr. Christine Pohl is professor of Church and Society/Christian Ethics at Asbury Theological Seminary. She has taught at the seminary since 1989. She received a B.S. in Special Education at Syracuse University, 1972; a M.A. in Theological Studies, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, 1986; and a Ph.D. in Ethics and Society at Emory University, 1993.

Dr. Pohl worked in various ministries for 11 years before attending seminary. She owned a Christian bookstore for six years and later worked in advocacy and refugee resettlement. She currently serves as an occasional advisor for homeless shelters and refugee programs. She has also helped plant three churches and is currently assisting her brother in planting a church in Nicholasville, Ky.  She is a recipient of grants for research from the American Academy of Religion, Lilly Endowment and Louisville Institute. She served as a board member for the Louisville Institute for six years and presently serves on the board of the Society of Christian Ethics.

Dr. Rader is the former World President of Women's Organizations for The Salvation Army.  She, with her husband, Paul A. Rader, the 15th General of The Salvation Army, served as international leaders of the Army from 1994 to 1999.  Prior to that, she served in Korea with The Salvation Army for 22 years.  Dr. Rader has received numerous awards and honorary degrees. She currently serves on the board of directors at Christian Friends of Korea.
