Asbury Theological Seminary announces School of Urban Ministries

Printer-friendly version

The Board of Trustees has approved President Timothy C. Tennent’s recommendations regarding the reorganization of the Florida Dunnam Campus according to Dr. Leslie A. Andrews, Provost. Faculty of Asbury Theological Seminary appointed to the Florida Maxie Dunnam Campus are now officially members of the School of Urban Ministries.

The creation of the Urban Ministries school reflects and gives shape to the vision of President Emeritus Maxie Dunnam. He envisioned an urban campus in Orlando, Fla., a gateway city to the world, as a multicultural, multiethnic center of theological education.

The School of Urban Ministries brings greater clarity and focus to the work of Asbury’s Florida faculty and staff. By 2023, the majority of Asbury students will likely be non-Anglo. Becoming a School of Urban Ministries will enable the Seminary to prepare students for ministry in a global context.

Dr. Andrews also announced that a dean for the school, the fifth school at Asbury Seminary, will be named in the near future and that a search for a vice president for the campus will also begin at that time.
