Blessed Earth

Printer-friendly version

I would like to send a special invitation to the Asbury Theological Seminary community to take part in the “Hope for Creation” simulcast event on Wednesday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. EST. Set on the eve of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, this event is hosted by Blessed Earth and other partners, including Asbury Seminary.

Thousands of churches and religious leaders of various denominations will participate in this gathering, which will include live musical performances, interactive audience participation, and an exclusive preview of the forthcoming Blessed Earth video series “Hope for Creation,” which explores the biblical vision for care of the planet. The simulcast will be broadcast from Northland Church in Orlando, Florida and will feature Dr. Matthew and Mrs. Nancy Sleeth, founders of the environmental non-profit Blessed Earth, which is based in Wilmore, Kentucky.

“The church has reawakened to the call to tend and protect the garden,” Dr. Sleeth said, referencing the Garden of Eden. “This is a night to spend together in the garden – worshipping God, dedicating ourselves to be good stewards, humbling ourselves in awe of what we have been given, and understanding our role in caring for the earth.”

I urge you to be a part of this gathering. Asbury will host a viewing site in McKenna Chapel in Wilmore, starting at 7:00 p.m. that evening, with the simulcast beginning at 7:30. The Florida campus community is invited to attend at the Northland site. You can also do so singly from your own computer, form your own group gathering, or join one of the groups in your area. For information on how to participate or to view the list of participating churches, go to www.blessedearth.org.
