ACCESS COURSE ICON
Login to FirstClass and find the course icon on the FirstClass Desktop.
Double-click on the course icon to access your course materials.
Course icons should be available on the first day of classes. If you have difficulty locating the course icon, please see the "Arranging FirstClass Desktop Icons" tutorial.
COURSE LAYOUT
The online course window is divided into two areas: the top with ten icons and the bottom area known as the "Discussion Center" where you will post and read discussion threads.

The icons in the top part of the course window are:
- Course Center - contains syllabus, instructions, handouts, powerpoints, etc.
- To Office - creates a new message to the professor's online office
- Course Teams - team discussion boards assigned by the professor for group projects
- Course Calendar - course events added by the professor
- Course Prayers - share praises and concerns with class members
- Resource Center - seminary-wide resources
- Chat Center - class chat room
- Archive Center - older posts, threads and messages archived by the professor
- Learning the Online Classroom - quick refresher tutorial on course layout
- To Online Support - creates a new message to Info_Commons@asburyseminary.edu for technology and research assistance
POSTING A MESSAGE
- Click the New Message icon located on the toolbar -- the first icon that looks like an envelope.
- Fill in the Subject: field.
- Verify that the To: field is populated with the course name.
- Type your message in the body.<
- Send your message by clicking Message > Send and Close from the Menu Bar.
REPLY IN A THREAD
- Go to the course Discussion Center.
- Open a message that you want to post a reply.
- Highlight any part of the original message that you want to be included in your reply (click and hold your mouse while dragging over a portion of the text).
- Click Message > Reply from the Menu Bar.
- Type your response in the body of the message.
- Send your reply by clicking Message > Send and Close from the Menu Bar.
SEND AN ATTACHMENT
- Click the New Message icon located on the toolbar -- the first icon that looks like an envelope.
- Fill in the Subject: field, To: field and body of the message.
- Click on File > Attach... from the Menu Bar.
- Locate the file you want to attach and click "Open".
- Send your message by clicking Message > Send and Close from the Menu Bar.
