Lynn Gibson

Lynn Gibson’s husband loves his wife’s home-cooked meals. But unfortunately for him, he’s not getting very much of them lately. As an ExL student at Asbury Seminary, Lynn is pursuing a master of divinity degree and candidacy in the United Methodist denomination. She laughs when talking about her husband’s love for her cooking, and then adds, “But he’s my biggest cheerleader.”

A mom and home-school teacher, Lynn has found her ministry for much of her life in supporting her husband, Carey, as a pastor’s wife and raising their three children. But as her children are now grown, she explains the reasoning behind her recent career change to a student at Asbury. “As I have been involved in various teaching ministries within the church over the last 15 years, I have been drawn into a deeper love of learning myself and also encouraging others in an ever-deepening relationship with God.”

And this love of learning has brought her to Asbury Seminary today. “This past year, God has shown me this is not just something I love to do, but a call on my life and one for which I was under-educated.”

For Lynn, her journey from mom to Asbury Seminary student is one of God’s leading hand. She tells of her love of ministry and the way the Lord has gone before her and opened doors of opportunity. From leading a lay witness ministry to a Bible Study Fellowship group to men’s and women’s Bible study class, she credits all her leadership opportunities to the way the Lord has worked through her.

“All I do is lean on God…I wait for God to move,” she says.

In those waiting times, Lynn still thinks of her life as a mom and homemaker with fondness. “I wouldn’t trade those years for anything.” A grandmother with two grandchildren, she loves to see her children teach their own the same lessons she taught them. But her learning season isn’t done yet. Lynn knows her life is “a work in progress—one step at a time.”

“And in these ongoing steps, God does His marvelous work of sanctification.”
