NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 3 CREDIT HOURS IN THE FALL AND SPRING SEMESTERS TO QUALIFY FOR SEMINARY COMMUTER HOUSING. ONCE BOTH THE APPLICATION AND HOUSING DEPOSIT ARE RECEIVED YOU WILL BE PLACED ON A LIST (IN ORDER OF FIRST-COME FIRST-SERVE BASIS) OF THOSE SEEKING COMMUTER HOUSING. PRIORITY IS GIVEN TO THOSE WHO HAVE PREVIOUSLY LIVED IN COMMUTER HOUSING.
Commuter Rights and Responsibilities (July 1, 2005) Commuter housing is provided for those students who are commuting to campus during the week and are in need of housing 1 - 4 nights per week. For males, commuter housing is available in Larabee Morris Residence Hall. For females, commuter housing is available in Orlean House. If Orlean is full the commuter will be place in Palmor Manor a family housing unit. We have set aside a specific amount of commuter spots (22 male and 10 women) within our residence halls and family housing units to try to best meet the needs of all students. Each semester commuter housing is granted on a first come first served basis. Therefore, it is essential that you apply each semester for commuter housing as soon as you are aware of your need for commuter housing.
In selecting to live in commuter housing you have the following rights and responsibilities. You have the right to know:
1. As a commuter, you are renting a bed for a maximum of four nights per week.
2. The nights that you are not staying in your commuter spot may be used by single housing to meet housing needs of other students needing temporary housing. We will notify you as soon as we are aware of any additional uses of your commuter spot. Single Housing will try to give at least a 1-week notice of another person staying in your commuter spot.
3. We do allow for you to leave your belongings in the room from week to week for your convenience. This is to be considered a privilege not a right. In exchange for this privilege, we ask the following: " You will be prepared to clean off your bed and desk at the request of Single Housing so that it may be used if necessary during the nights you have not rented the commuter spot.
4. It is the responsibility of the commuter to be respectful of the living area they are sharing with others, i.e. please clean up after yourself. It is your responsibility to keep your bedroom area cleaned. It is also your responsibility to contribute to the cleanliness of the common living areas that you use, such as the bathroom and kitchen. For the female commuter residence, maintenance will thoroughly clean the apartments twice a year, one time in January and one time in the summer. If you have a maintenance request and you live in the residence hall this should be reported to the RA. If you live in one of the family housing units all maintenance requests can be emailed (maintenance@asburyseminary.edu) or called into maintenance (858-2298). In the case of an emergency (especially concerning water or sewage problems) Please call the requests in ASAP.
5. It is the responsibility of the commuter to make sure they are checked in and out of their commuter housing spot. This should be done my clearly communicating when the commuter plans to arrive to campus and when they plan to move out of commuter housing. For males, check-in and checkout are completed through the Resident Assistants (RA). Please schedule a time with the RA. For females, the Single Housing Assistant will check you in and out of your commuter housing. Please schedule a time with the Single Housing Assistant. If you are not properly checked out of commuter housing, i.e. you move out without checking out, your housing deposit will be forfeited.
6. It is the responsibility of the commuter to notify us in writing 30 days prior to permanently leaving the residence halls. If this is not done the housing deposit will be forfeit. If the commuter simply does not show up for his/her reservation the deposit will be forfeit.
7. It is the responsibility of the commuter to reapply for housing each semester that commuter housing is needed. Housing will be granted on a first come first served basis, giving priority to those who have previously lived in commuter housing. Once commuter spots are full those who have not received housing will be placed on a wait list for commuter housing. If there are full-time resident spots available and no full-time residents to fill those spots, an exception to policy will be made for that semester only and commuters will be able to utilize those housing spots.
8. If the commuter is placed in a double occupancy room in which the roommate does not show up, the commuter may be asked to move in with another student. (Or a new student may move in with him/her.)
In acceptance of commuter housing I have read the above rights and responsibilities of commuter housing. By signing this document I agree to abide by these rights and responsibilities.
