Dr. Ruth Anne Reese

Professor of New Testament

Dr. Ruth Anne Reese is Professor of New Testament at Asbury Theological Seminary and holds the Beeson Chair of Biblical Studies. She joined Asbury Theological Seminary in 2000. Her teaching interests include hermeneutics, wealth and poverty in the Bible, theological interpretation of the Bible, narrative approaches to Scripture, and the General Epistles. Dr. Reese places a high value on outstanding teaching and has been both a participant and a leader of workshops focused on pedagogy through the Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Theology and Religion. Reese is also the Chair of the New Testament Department at Asbury Seminary and serves on the board of the Institute for Biblical Research.

She received a B.A. from Biola University, 1991; and a Ph.D. from the University of Sheffield, 1996.

Dr. Reese has written several books, including 1 Peter (New Cambridge Bible Commentary, Cambridge, 2022), 2 Peter and Jude (Two Horizons Commentary, Eerdmans, 2007). She is currently working on a commentary on the book of James. She is involved as a layperson at Apostle’s Anglican Church in Lexington, Ky, where she teaches adult discipleship, preaches on occasion, and serves as part of the mission/vision team.

Dr. Reese is married to Alfred Haase and they have one son.
