Prior to coming to Asbury Seminary in 2008, Dr. Hong held the J.B. and Bette Crouse Chair of Evangelism at Seoul Theological University. He was also pastor of Sandol Korea Evangelical Holiness Church, where he served from 2002 to 2008. He has also been preaching the gospel messages in more than 50 countries, in addition to his missionary service in Thailand. In 2000 and 2005, Dr. Hong was the recipient of the Outstanding Professor Award by the Secretary of Education of the Republic of Korea.

Dr. Hong is the director of the World Evangelism Research Center and has translated more than 27 texts from English into Korean. He has also edited 7 books and written 13 books in Korean and more than three books in English, including John Wesley: A Fiery Evangelist, Biblical Models for Evangelism, Let Us Evangelize: Biblical Bases for Evangelism, The Truth of the Cross (2008), and The Genealogy of Jesus Christ: Evangelistic Sermons on the Covenant from Matthew 1:1 (2010.

Dr. Hong and his wife, Elizabeth, have two children, Eunice and Susan.
