MA (Biblical Studies)

MA(BS)
The Master of Arts (Biblical Studies) provides preparation for people desiring to pursue further, postgraduate work in biblical studies; and serves as a terminal degree for ministries of teaching Scripture in congregations, parachurch organizations, and Christian institutes.

Admission Requirements

  • Application
  • Official transcripts from all postsecondary degree conferring schools sent to Admissions directly from the institution
  • $50 non-refundable application fee
  • Personal history
  • Four References

    • Pastor (required)
  • 3.00/4.00 grade point average*
    Applicants whose cumulative grade point average falls below 3.0 may not be admitted into the MA(BS)/MA(TS) programs. However, applicants may begin in another Masters degree (such as the Master of Arts in Christian Ministries) degree and then transfer into the MA(BS)/MA(TS) program after completing 9 hours of course work in the initial program and earning at least a 3.0.

  • For applicants whose native language is other than English, 79 internet (550 paper) TOEFL score or 7.0 IELTS

  • Vocation of Ministry
  • Church History 1 and 2
  • Basic Christian Doctrine OR Method and Praxis in Theology
  • Inductive Bible Studies 1
  • Old Testament Intro
  • New Testament Intro

Biblical Specialization Requirements (24 hours)

  • Comprehensive Greek 1 and 2
  • Survey of Biblical Hebrew
  • Grammar, Readings/Biblical Hebrew
  • Inductive Biblical Studies 2
  • New Testament OR Old Testament Theology
  • Exegesis Electives (6 hours)

Biblical Studies Electives (6 hours)

General Electives (6 hours)

*If your GPA [or GRE scores] do not meet the minimum requirement or does not accurately reflect your ability to succeed at Asbury, you will have an opportunity to explain in your personal history essay.
