Creation Care Community

Printer-friendly version

The Creation Care Community of Asbury Theological Seminary encourages students, faculty and staff in lifestyles that care for God’s creation. Together we are reclaiming God’s call and learning what it looks like to be stewards of the blessings He has given us.

Throughout each semester we offer several different opportunities for those interested, such as covenant groups, community gardening, lunch forums, and hosting national speakers. An individual can participate at various levels within the community; these levels include those who may attend some or all of the lunch forums, to those who desire a deeper formational experience through covenant groups. We welcome all levels of engagement.  You can be a part of the community whether you are new to the biblical understanding of being stewards of God’s creation or if you have advanced experience and knowledge in stewardship.

We will gather monthly throughout each semester for a lunch forum with an open invitation to the committed as well as the curious. These larger meetings feature a person who is actively living a “creation care” lifestyle from the Jessamine community or surrounding area. The invitational nature of the larger meeting seeks to extend the conversations to influence Asbury more broadly. In time, our hope is to see joint sustainability relationships shared by both Asbury University and Asbury Seminary. In a spirit of humility and teachability, we seek to grow in our stewardship of God’s gifts of nature, time, resources and relationships.

Those that are interested in being involved in a deeper formational practice are encouraged to join a Covenant Group.  The purpose of Covenant Groups is to join together for learning, modeling, formation and teaching.  Each covenant group goes through a 12 month curriculum using the Blessed Earth film series created by Matthew and Nancy Sleeth.
