In celebration of the Tercentennial anniversary of the birth of Methodist hymnwriter, Charles Wesley, Asbury Seminary is sponsoring a contest for the composition of original new tunes for existing Charles Wesley texts. Performance genre could be solo, small-group or choral arrangements. First place, second place and third place prizes of $200, $100 and $75 each will be awarded to the selected winners. The contest is open to all current Asbury Seminary students, alumni and former students who have earned a minimum of 18 academic credits.
Entries will be adjudicated on the basis of their suitability for adaptation to congregational singing. CD performance recordings welcomed. Strive to compose new tunes that can be suitably sung by congregations!
Deadline for entries is October 8, 2007. Contest winners will be notified no later than November 5, 2007.
