Visiting Scholar Leads Our Intercession

Joanne Cox

We pray to the God of glory and Lord of love

Resounding applause welcomes the admission’s guests,
And awakens us to the reality of God’s calling upon individuals.
We pray that we would recognise your calling and shaping
Of our lives; equipping and encouraging us on the deeper journey.

Green coloured advertisements, Celtic images and Irish-style memorabilia
Celebrate the life and work of St Patrick.
We pray for the people who have been saints in our own lives;
We cast under your care the people we are nurturing and discipling in the Christian faith.

Coffee scented incense arises from favourite coffee shops; guiding our prayers towards our need for conversation and community.
We pray for the seminary here at Asbury - asking that your spirit would usher us into the community you would have us be.

Daylight savings, spring bulbs and warm sun
Proclaim creation’s hope of our new life and rebirth
As spring breaks - we pray for our brothers and sisters as Asbury College.
We pray for the spirit’s anointing on the mission trips that are to take place; praying that your kingdom would be seen through the lives of participants and the lives of those visited.

Muffled silences and smuggled headline
Declare intolerance, torture and violence.
We pray for those whose cries are hidden;
Aware especially for the recent arrest and torture of the leader of the opposition party in Zimbabwe.

The Lentern Journey facilitates our reflection on the deeper journey with Jesus.
We pray as Dr Mulholland speaks this morning, that our minds, hearts, imaginations and spirit will be pierced with a fresh revelation of how wide and long and high and deep the love of Christ is.

We join these spoken prayer
With the prayers of our hearts and minds
Trusting in your faithfulness, Lord God.
We pray in the name of Jesus Christ
The vocation giver
The life liver
The mission’s aim
The tortured innocent
The spirit’s source

Amen
