Bishop Raul Garcia, Mexico
Raul Garcia was only 15 years old when he felt called into full-time ministry. Today, he is serving as the bishop of the Eastern Conference of the Methodist Church in Mexico and completing his Doctor of Ministry degree through Asbury Seminary’s Beeson International Leaders Program.
Impassioned for the people of Mexico, Raul desires to help the Mexican church return to its roots—to become less interested in big churches and more interested in changing lives. Raul believes that small groups bring about life change because he has seen it in his own life through the mentorship of Asbury Professors and friendships of fellow classmates. Raul says, “though we are from different countries … we have similar backgrounds, passions, and visions, so it has been a very enriching experience.”
For Raul, participating in this program has rekindled his vision of, “world Methodism awakening for world evangelization.” He returns to Monterray, Mexico not only with a refreshed vision for his church, but also a renewed personal strength to live out his message for the Lord. The last time he went home, one of his friends told him that he “came back very different”; once again, Christ is impacting his church one transformed life at a time.
