Presidential Scholarships
The Presidential Scholarship Program is a series of scholarships for international and national MA/MDIV students involving academic criteria and leadership skills. These are merit-based scholarships covering up to 100% of tuition. Some Presidential Scholars may also receive a stipend to be determined annually. Applicants are required to complete the Asbury Theological Seminary Financial Aid Application, submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and complete the Presidential Scholarship Application which includes a 500-word essay on How you anticipate seminary will equip you for future leadership. Applications for the Presidential Scholarship will be emailed to prospective students who qualify for participation and have been admitted to Asbury Seminary by Jan. 5. Applications must be submitted by Jan.15.
Scholarship Requirements
- Undergraduate cumulative 3.75 GPA
- Maintain full-time student status (24 hours annually)
- Maintain a 3.50 GPA
- Demonstration of faithful involvement in a local worship community, as well as the seminary community
- Participation in at least four Christian service activities a year
- Completion of a Seminary-approved financial planning seminar or workshop during the first term of study in order to re-qualify for subsequent terms of scholarship funding
- Commitment to enter into active ministry (requiring 20 hours/week commitment) following graduation or completion of other academic work
Dr. J. Ellsworth Kalas Pastoral Scholarships*
The Dr. J. Ellsworth Kalas Pastoral Scholarship is a $12,000 annual award. Applicants are required to complete the Asbury Theological Seminary Financial Aid Application, submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and complete the Kalas Scholarship Application which includes a 500-word essay on How your intended vocational goal and this scholarship will better enable you to accomplish the desires God has set forth upon your heart and life. Applications for the Dr. J. Ellsworth Kalas Scholarship will be emailed to prospective students who qualify for participation and have been admitted to Asbury Seminary by Jan. 5. Applications must be submitted by Jan.15.
Scholarship Requirements
- Seek theological training leading to a degree
- Plan to serve in full-time pastoral ministry in the local church. Intended for, but not limited to, one who will serve a congregation as the resident/lead pastor.
- Demonstrate financial need
- Maintain full-time student status at Asbury Seminary's Kentucky or Florida campus. (24 credit hours per Financial Aid year)
*Per scholarship guidelines, the Kalas Scholarship is only available to incoming students beginning in either the Summer or Fall term.
Deans Scholarship
Deans Scholarships are need-based scholarships distributed to graduate-level students and cover up to 50% of tuition. All graduate-level students who have completed the necessary paperwork by March 1 will be considered for the Deans Scholarship.
- U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens must submit their Asbury Theological Seminary Financial Aid Application and their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- International students need to submit the International Student Questionnaire (ISQ).
Scholarship Requirements
- Undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.75 and regular service in a local congregation, campus ministry, mission outreach, or social service OR a 2.5 undergraduate cumulative GPA and notable leadership in a local congregation, campus ministry, mission outreach, or social service
- Commitment to taking at least 18 hours annually
- Maintain a 2.75 GPA
- Demonstration of faithful involvement in a local worship community, as well as the seminary community
- Participation in at least two Christian service activities a year
- Completion of a Seminary-approved financial planning seminar or workshop during the first term of study in order to re-qualify for subsequent terms
- Commitment to enter in to active ministry (requiring 20 hours/week commitment) following graduation or completion of other academic work
Trustee International Scholarships
Trustee International Scholarships are need-based scholarships distributed to international students in all degree programs. This scholarship can cover up to 100% of tuition and some scholarship recipients may receive a stipend, amount which will be determined annually. The Scholarship Selection Committee meets in March to award scholarships for the following academic year. The Trustee International Scholarships are available to persons from indigenous groups who are participants in the life of their communities. The scholarships are not available to persons who are or plan to become citizens or permanent residents of the USA, citizens of Canada, or citizens of what was previously called western Europe. Trustee International Scholarships will be granted to students seeking degrees that will allow the assumption of leadership (ecclesial or academic) in their home country. The deadline for application submittal is Jan. 15.

Postgraduate Support Scholarships
Postgraduate Support Scholarships are available to Ph.D., D.Miss, and Th.M. students. Scholarship criterion are merit followed by need. Scholarship can cover 25, 50, 75 or 100 percent of tuition, however Th.M. students will not be considered for full tuition scholarships. All applicants admitted for these degree programs by Feb. 1 will be invited to apply for the scholarship via email. Applicants are required to complete a Postgraduate Support Scholarship Application, including a 1000-word essay, answering this question: Students who are passionate about their dissertation research tend to make more innovative contributions to their fields of study. Describe your passion for your research and how it will equip you for your future. The deadline for application submittal is Jan. 15. Note: 50% of the Postgraduate Support Scholarship is a forgivable loan upon completion of the degree within the time limits for completion as found in the academic catalog (e.g., a student receiving a 50% tuition waiver has a grant worth 25% and a loan worth 25% that is forgivable upon successful completion within the required time.) Stipends may be awarded to 100% tuition scholarship recipients, with the stipend amount to be determined annually. The deadline for application submittal is Jan. 15
Special Scholarships for MA/MDiv Students
Special Scholarships are generated from either Endowed or Restricted funds. Recipients of Special Scholarships must represent strong promise for Christian ministry and demonstrate need, as determined by the Financial Aid Committee. The Asbury Theological Seminary Financial Aid Application serves as the application for all institutional scholarships. Each year renewal of a Special Scholarship is requested through the filing of a new Asbury Theological Seminary Financial Aid Application and a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1.
