Admissions Requirements:

Scholarship Application
Scholarships are available for international students at the graduate and postgraduate levels.  A limited number of scholarships are available each year on a competitive basis and are generally considered in March prior to the beginning of a given academic year.  See scholarships for more information about qualifications.

The scholarship application deadline is January 15.  To be considered for a scholarship, a graduate-level applicant must be admitted no later than January 31 of the same year.

Please note that it may take several weeks to months for testing agencies to submit score reports for the TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, etc.  Only completed files, including receipt of official score reports, can be considered for admission prior to the January 31 deadline.  It is important to check with the testing agency when scheduling the exams to determine the delivery time of any tests that may be required.

International student scholarships cover tuition only.  Recipients are responsible for all other expenses and, as a condition of accepting the scholarship, must commit to return to their home country for ministry.

Scholarship policy is such that the scholarship must be awarded prior to enrollment.  International students who enroll without being awarded an international student scholarship are ineligible for future scholarship consideration.

Please contact Financial Aid for all scholarship or non-immigration (i.e., visa) information at financial.aid@asburyseminary.eduor 1.800.2ASBURY ext. 2319.

Upon Admission
The following information pertains to admitted students.  These processes will be completed through the Financial Aid Office after admission to a degree program has been granted.

Financial Certification Process for F-1/J-1 Student Visa Applicants and Holders
The United States Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services requires that students on F-1 or J-1 visas provide evidence of adequate financial support for the entire period of stay in the United States while pursuing a full course of study.  This process is required for new international students coming from the outside of the US as well as transfer students from another school within the US.

Timeline for Financial Certification Process
If you are coming from outside the USA, the Financial Certification Process can take between 3 to 5 months.  The optimal times for completing this process are as follows:

  • Beginning classes in Fall semester – July 1st
  • Beginning classes in Spring semester – December 1st
  • Beginning classes in Summer semester* – April 1st
  • Beginning classes in January term* – November 1st

*Please note that Kentucky and Florida Dunnam campus classes during the Summer semester and January term are intensive in nature, and on-campus dining facilities are typically not open.  Thus, it is strongly recommended that all international students apply to begin a degree program either during the Fall or Spring semesters, to aid the transition period.

Visa interview appointments are often limited to a few hours per day on selected days only.  Each US Embassy has its own timetable for when it offers visa appointments and how many are available.  Contact your nearest US Embassy for visa appointment wait-times.

Permanent Residents and Other Visa Classifications
If you are already in the US as a permanent resident or are on another visa:

  • Alien Registration Receipt Card – All resident alien (permanent resident) applicants must provide a copy of their Alien Registration Receipt Card I-551 (green card).
  • Applicants classified as R-1 visa status or H1B visa status for work must furnish a copy of their visa accompanied by an employment verification letter from their current employer.
