Move!
Sept. 12-16, 2010 -Asbury Seminary Kentucky campus
Taking place during Holiness Week, Move! is a time of spiritual formation, renewal and refreshment as we begin the fall semester. Beginning with a retreat on Sunday evening, into Monday, make room for this time of worship, personal reflection, special speakers, music, fellowship, food and fun for the campus community, alumni and friends joining together in a celebration of holiness. ATTENTION ALUMNI IN FLORDIA area – you are invited to a special luncheon hosted in the Harper Community Room of the Asbury Seminary Campus in Orlando, beginning at 11:30am. Dr. Tennent will be our guest speaker during the luncheon. Additionally, the members of the Florida Council will be using this opportunity to meet and dine with our alumni. Following the luncheon, everyone would be invited to stay for a special message from John Michael Talbot. He will be sharing word and song during Asbury’s Chapel time. John Michael Talbot is the 2010 Evans' Family lecturer.

News:
Mark A. Rains (1983), executive director of Country Road Ministries, was selected to represent the clergy in the 2009-2010 Edition of Premiere International Who’s Who. Due to his work, all fees and awards totaling over $5000 were waived, and, upon request, were donated to Food for the Poor. Lynn, his wife, retired from Emergency Medicine after 35 years and together they plan to work in national and international disaster relief as an extension of CRM as the need arises. They have three children: Luke teaches Art Education (K-6), Peter is a musician, performing for “MUNY,” while exploring a MSW and Sarah Lynn is pursuing a MS in Speech Pathology.

This commemorates the centennial anniversary of the birth of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who Mark met in 1966 when he was 12. Rev. H. Mark Abbott (1968) is retiring at the end of June, 2010 as Senior Pastor of First Free Methodist Church in Seattle after 28 years in this position and 42 consecutive years in pastoral ministry. Since completing the M.Div. at Asbury, Mark received an M.A. from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY and the D. Min. from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He also served as pastor of Wesleyan Churches in Hamburg and Houghton, New York. He has been Adjunct Faculty at Fuller Seminary in the Northwest and will be an Adjunct Faculty member at Seattle Pacific University’s School of Theology.

Rev. Derrell W. Patterson (1980) has been appointed District Superintendent to the Big Spring District of the Northwest Texas Conference of the UMC. This new ministry officially begins on July 1, 2010. Derrell and Sandy will move to the district parsonage in Big Spring on June 15th. Their oldest son, Douglas, is getting married on June 26th in Vernon, TX.
Rev. Dr. Derrick Lemons (1997, 2008) recently presented a paper at the American Society of Missiology Conference entitled “Missional Shifts in the Evangelical Church.” In his talk, he presented two case studies about mission-denominational shifts being attempted by the Southern Baptist Convention and The Wesleyan Church. Dr. Lemons also recently accepted a new faculty appointment to the departments of Anthropology and Religion at the University of Georgia.
