Meet the Board of Trustees – Sundo Kim
The Bishop (Rev. Dr.) Sundo Kim is a member of the Board of Trustees and an adjunct faculty member at Asbury Theological Seminary.
He received a diploma from Haeju Medical College in Haeju, Korea, 1951; a B.D. from Methodist Theological Seminary in Seoul, Korea, 1958; a diploma from Long Beach Missionary School, 1968; a M.R.Ed. from Wesley Theological Seminary, 1970; and a D.Min. from Fuller Theological Seminary, 1982. He was also awarded honorary degrees from Asbury Theological Seminary, Africa University (Mutare, Zimbabwe), Ho Seo University (Cheonan, Korea), and Methodist Theological Seminary.
Dr. Kim is a retired pastor from Kwanglim Methodist Church in Korea and is currently president of the Ministerial Research Institute of Korea. He serves as chair of the Wesley Evangelical Movement Fellowship (Korea), Korea Ministerial Association and The World Vision of Korea. Dr. Kim was president of The World Methodist Council from 1997 to 2001.
He is the recipient of various awards from the Korean military and Korean governmental agencies. He has also received numerous recognitions in the United States. In 2005, Asbury Seminary dedicated the Bishop Sundo Kim Chair of Evangelism and Practical Theology.
Dr. Kim and his wife, Kwan-Soon Park, reside in Seoul, Korea. They have three children and seven grandchildren.
