After serving as a United Methodist pastor for 28 years, Dr. Martyn has come to Asbury Seminary with a wealth of leadership experience in the local church and beyond. Steve has pastored congregations in Northwest Texas, Bethel Park, PA, Albuquerque, NM, and Lexington, KY. In addition, Steve served as the first Spiritual Director for the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
In addition to his extensive leadership within four different annual conferences of the United Methodist Church, Steve has served in a multiplicity of settings in the United States and abroad through conferencing, teaching, writing, and preaching in the areas of spiritual formation and congregational leadership.
Steve was born in Midland, TX and raised in Quanah, TX. He is married to Diane Moore, and together they have been blessed with three wonderful children and two grandchildren. Steve is an avid jogger who loves the outdoors—especially backpacking in the Colorado Rockies—and is also a potter.
