Education:

Professor Russell joined Asbury’s Florida faculty the summer of 2000 after completing his doctoral coursework at Union Theological Seminary. While at Union, he served as a visiting instructor of Aramaic and as a teaching assistant in Koine Greek. He also spent three years as a teaching fellow (Biblical languages and Old Testament survey) at Asbury Seminary, following completion of his M.Div. Professor Russell has written “Interpreting the Book of Exodus: A Review Essay” in Catalyst and a book review entitled “Exodus 1-18 by George W. Coats,” scheduled to appear in Interpretation. He is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including a John Wesley Fellowship (A Foundation for Theological Education), Merit Fellowship (Union Seminary), the Ichthus Award (Asbury Seminary, excellence in biblical studies) and a Presidential Scholarship (University of Akron). Professor Russell is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature and an ordained deacon in The United Methodist Church with seven years of pastoral experience. In his spare time, Professor Russell enjoys home improvements, spending time outdoors, music, and auto racing. He and his wife, Jackie, have two daughters, Micaela and Katrina.
