Dr. Johnson has been a member of the Asbury faculty since 1978. He is the past chair of the Area of Preaching and Worship, and has also served as Director of Supervised Ministry, Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program, and Dean of the Chapel at Asbury. Dr. Johnson is an ordained elder in the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church, where he served as pastor for several years before coming to Asbury. He is involved in the ministry of spiritual direction, and is a frequent conference speaker and retreat leader. He is the author of Celebrate, My Soul which has been re-released under the title Your Personality and the Spiritual Life. His two-CD, multi-media “short course on prayer” is entitled, Learning to Pray Again. He has co-authored with Dr. Donald Demaray, Spiritual Formation for Christian Leaders, to be published by Abingdon Press in 2007. He has also written numerous articles on various aspects of the Christian life. Dr. Johnson is certified by the Association for the Application of Psychological Type and is an approved evangelist and Bible teacher for the United Christian Ashram Movement. He has served on the Jessamine County School Board and as a coach in Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. Dr. Johnson and his wife, Diane (“Jo”), had a family of four, soon to be eight, since their daughter (Katie) and two of their sons (Wesley and Joshua) are married now, and Nathan is engaged.
