Dr. Collins was no stranger to higher education when he joined the Asbury Seminary faculty in 1995 as professor of church history. While teaching at Methodist College in Fayetteville, N.C., for the 11 previous years, Dr. Collins was given the honor of “Educator of the Year” for United Methodist schools. His achievements and affiliations go hand-in-hand with this distinguished honor. Dr. Collins, an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church, has written a wealth of articles and several books. His articles have been published in such publications as the Quarterly Review, Christian Scholar’s Review, The Asbury Theological Journal, Covenant Quarterly and The Wesleyan Theological Journal. His books include The Evangelical Moment: The Promise of an American Religion (Baker Books, 2005), John Wesley: A Theological Journey (Abingdon Press, 2003), A Real Christian: The Life of John Wesley (Abingdon Press, 1999), The Scripture Way of Salvation: The Heart of John Wesley’s Theology (Abingdon Press, 1997), Soul Care: Deliverance and Renewal through the Christian Life (Victor Books/SP Publication, Inc., 1995), A Faithful Witness: John Wesley’s Homiletical Theology (Wesley Heritage Press, 1993) and Wesley On Salvation: A Study in the Standard Sermons (Francis Asbury Press, 1989). Dr. Collins has served as president of the Wesleyan Theological Society and is a member of the Wesley Historical Society, Theta Phi and the Oxford Institute of Methodist Theological Studies. Dr. Collins and his wife, Marilyn, have two children: Brooke Erin and Lauren Anne.
