Dr. Dongell joined the Asbury Seminary faculty in 1989, and now serves as Professor of Biblical Studies, with primary responsibility in the Inductive Bible Study Department. Previous to 1989, Dr. Dongell served as an instructor in various languages (Greek, Hebrew, and Latin) at Asbury Seminary (1981-83), Asbury College (1985-86), and Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Va., (1987). His doctoral dissertation focused on the literary structure of Luke’s Gospel, a particular interest which has more recently extended into the Gospels of Mark and John as well. Dr. Dongell is the author of a commentary on the Gospel of John (published by Wesley Press). Most recently he has co-authored a book with Asbury Seminary professor, Jerry Walls, entitled Why I Am not a Calvinist. As an ordained elder in the Wesleyan Church, Dr. Dongell has maintained an active ministry in that denomination as an Associate Pastor, a regular adult Sunday School teacher, (one-time) director and (frequent) advisor of the Wesleyan Seminary Foundation on the Seminary campus, an instructor in regional Wesleyan ministerial training, and a representative to the annual Graduate Student Theological Seminar. His personal interests include organic gardening, astronomy, and coffee shop conversation. He and his wife, Regina, have teenage twins, Jordan and Janna, and enjoy living out in the country.
