Dr. Arnold joined the Asbury Seminary faculty in 1995 with more than 10 years teaching experience. He previously taught at Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio, as professor of Old Testament and Semitic languages, and before that at Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson, Miss., as professor of Old Testament and biblical languages. He has written or edited seven books, the most recent of which are 1-2 Samuel (Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 2003), and A Guide to Biblical Hebrew Syntax (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2003), coauthored with John H. Choi. He has also written college-level textbooks On the Old Testament (1999) and On Genesis (1998). Other works edited by Dr. Arnold are The Face of Old Testament Studies: A Survey of Contemporary Approaches (1999, co-edited with David W. Baker) and Readings from the Ancient Near East: Primary Sources for Old Testament Study (2002, co-edited with Bryan E. Beyer). Currently he is at work on a commentary on Genesis for the New Cambridge Bible Commentary series. An ordained elder in the Kentucky Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church, Dr. Arnold pastored for six years in central and northern Kentucky. Between his writing and teaching schedules, Dr. Arnold enjoys following the Kentucky Wildcats and Cincinnati Reds. He and his wife, Susan, have three sons: David, Jeremy and Alexander.
